What to expect from Foundational Concepts: Understanding Physiological Reproductive Process, Pregnancy, Birth and Providing  PostPartum

Regardless of the title of the attendant, care during the reproductive process requires the ability to understand the general laws of its nature and apply them to the individual situation. This unique 2 part training combines the experience and wisdom of two traditional midwifery practitioners, both skilled in supporting autonomous families in their birth options, typically in a community setting and mostly in rural regions with hospitals an hour or more away.

Being a member of a birth team requires a basic understanding of what is happening along the way and how to interpret everything within a continuity of care foundation. The training will offer a blend of presentations, discussion, story telling, and hands-on learning created specifically for the home birth setting. Both Sarita and Rowan built their practices on these foundational concepts of creating relationships with and supporting families in full autonomy. They come from the deep wisdom that physiological pregnancy and birth is precious, sacred, and sometimes challenging. While we know we usually only need to show up and support, we sometimes must step into action and DO something. We will discuss that discernment and intuition thoroughly throughout this training.

Training Weekend #1: Reproductive Process, Understanding Hormones, Pregnancy Care and Documentation: We will be doing scenes and storytelling throughout the weekend.     Thursday evening arrival for meet and greet with dinner and snacks from 6pm to 9pm. Show up to connect and share what brought us to be here!

Training Weekend #2: Birth, Birth Complications, Simulations, Placenta Examination, PostPartum Care: Thursday evening arrival to reconnect and catch up.

Additional Zoom Meetings: We will offer some reading and assignments as we part from Weekend #1 and meet via Zoom once in April and once in May to discuss and share our experiences since being together.

As you walk away from this 2 part training, we desire for you to have a deeper understanding of the physiology and hormonal processes of normal reproduction, as well as when to trust your intuition in your own practice. We have come to realize that most current training in midwifery is deeply enmeshed in the obstetrical model that pregnancy and birth are pathology with the constant fear of ‘what can go wrong’. It is our hope to bring the wisdom of our foremothers back to the foundation of our birthing culture. We believe the foundational concepts used for this training can open a deeper understanding that will enable you to develop confidence in your intuition and embodied knowledge, no matter where this journey takes you. Join us for these 2 long weekends of intensive fun in a relaxed setting, fueled by good food and passionate discussion.
